Engaging with Relevance
Rigor is an education buzzword that is used quite frequently and typically surrounding high-order thinking and Bloom's Taxonomy. The Quad-D Rigor and Relevance Framework illustrates another piece of the engagement puzzle, which is how relevant the content is to the student. The relevance of activities and/or content is a critical aspect of creating an engaging classroom experience that is often overlooked. For teachers to continue providing valuable learning opportunities that benefit students and prepare them to apply traits and develop transferable skills, we need to master the shift to creating engaging, relevant classroom instruction.

How to use Canvas in the Primary Grades
Canvas is an amazing tool to use in the classroom, EVEN IF you teach in the primary grades! I LOVE Canvas! It is my classroom's digital "hub". It is a place for me to communicate with my students and parents. It houses materials that we use on a weekly basis like spelling lists, read aloud books, and subject/theme related resources. My students complete assignments and even access learning centers using Canvas! If you want to learn how to use Canvas more efficiently in your primary classroom, this is the session for you! STEM Integration Across the Middle School Curriculum
What could it mean for students if STEM truly permeated their entire learning environment? What does STEM look like within curricular areas that do not traditionally fall into what we naturally think of as STEM content areas? Our two-year journey to becoming an IDOE STEM certified school lead to cross curricular collaborations unlike any in which we had previously engaged. It also created incredible learning opportunities for students and staff. Join us to explore our journey and the lessons learned along the way. Presenters will discuss their challenges of cross curricular collaboration, the process of incorporating Language Arts, Social Studies, and Unified Arts into the STEM curriculum, the value of having all content areas and teachers involved, how the 4 Cs of STEM fit into each content area, and strategies to help create all staff buy-in to this initiative. Presenters, all teachers within this journey, will share information and handout/resources for STEM integration across the curriculum.

Background Information: Workshop for Educators on Collaborative Learning Communities

Many teachers are unsure of how to go about setting up collaborative groups or find collaborative groups messy, disorganized, and an ill-structured waste of instructional time. Dispelling myths and addressing concerns removes some obstacles preventing collaborative groups.

Students who collaborate also are more engaged in learning. Collaboration is a 21st century skill for students and this must be modeled by educators. Educators must also provide opportunities for students to collaborate in multiple settings and activities. STEM certified schools requires students to work independently and collaboratively in an inquiry-based learning environment that encourages finding creative solutions to authentic and complex problems and use technology resources to conduct research, demonstrate creative and critical thinking, and communicate and work collaboratively.
